Nebraska Department of Insurance (NDOI) Deputy Director and General Counsel, Christine Neighbors, has been awarded the Robert Dineen Award for Outstanding Service and Contribution to the State Regulation of Insurance. Neighbors received the award at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (“NAIC”) Fall National Meeting in National Harbor, Maryland on November 19, 2015. She was one of three regulators to receive the award this year, joining regulators from Tennessee and Texas.

“Christy is known nationally for her tremendous work with international insurance matters and has developed a great deal of respect for her work on the subject matter of insurance group supervision,” said NDOI Director Bruce Ramge. “Nebraska’s domestic insurance industry includes several large insurance groups. Christy’s work benefits Nebraskans and the U.S. insurance industry.”

The Nebraska Department of Insurance is finishing its statewide informational sessions on the Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obamacare. Beginning on Tuesday, November 3, the Department will be informing Nebraskans about changes to Obamacare in Norfolk, South Sioux City, and Fremont. Individuals are invited to attend these public meetings.

The Nebraska Department of Insurance is continuing its educational sessions on the Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obamacare. Last week, the Department met with Nebraska residents and small business owners in McCook, Gering, Valentine, and O’Neill. Beginning September 21, the Department will continue its outreach in other parts of the state. Individuals are invited to attend these public meetings.

In order to answer and reassure Nebraskans about open enrollment on the Marketplace, the Department of Insurance is scheduling meetings across the state to update consumers on changes that are occurring with law and to answer any questions they may have.

On March 11, 2011, the Nebraska Department of Insurance issued a Notice as to whether an insurer can collect fees on behalf of an insurance consultant from a new insured if the insurance business is placed by an insurance consultant. The Notice addressed the issue whether or not the insurer could hold the fees for eventual disbursement to the insurance consultant.
