NEWS RELEASE - Listening Sessions Offered by Department of Insurance

Many Nebraskans have questions about insurance and how it affects their family or business. In order to answer these questions, the Department of Insurance will have experts on hand  to speak about  the recent changes in the Affordable Care Act also known as Obamacare. The Department will also share their expertise and have a discussion on property and casualty topics that may interest business owners.

“With the increase in health insurance premiums, the upcoming open enrollment process will be very important. Nebraskans need to shop around and make sure that the plan they choose during open enrollment is the one that fits their needs,” said Director of Insurance Bruce Ramge.  “While price is one important factor, consumers need to make sure that the hospitals and doctors they go to are in their plan’s network.”

The Department of Insurance has scheduled listening sessions in several locations across the state to update consumers on changes in the market and answer any questions that they may have.  This will be the first year that the Department will also be speaking about property and casualty insurance in addition to health insurance. “The Department wants to provide a positive consumer experience by providing Nebraskans with the best information possible on how and why they need to purchase insurance for their business or family,” said Director Ramge.

The listening sessions will consist of a brief discussion on the following topics:

  • The ACA and the Future
  • Health Insurance Options  for individuals and small businesses
  • 2017 Premiums
  • Property and Casualty Insurance

Department staff will be available to answer questions following the presentations.  The dates and locations that have been arranged for the sessions are as follows:
