LINCOLN, Neb. (Dec. 13, 2024) - Health insurance provider Humana announced effective December 31, 2024, it will end contracts with Sanford Health, impacting Nebraskans in two counties in northeast and north central Nebraska.

Affected Locations:
•    Sanford Vermillion Ponca Clinic, 111 E. 2nd St., Ponca, NE - Dixon County
•    Bassett Family Clinic, 103 Clark St., Bassett, NE - Rock County

As a result of the termination, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has declared a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) for eligible members.

Those affected by the termination will be eligible for the Special Enrollment Period (SEP). If they choose to switch to Original Medicare during the SEP, they will have Medigap Guaranteed Issue Rights (GI). This means that insurance companies must offer them coverage when switching plans during this period, regardless of their health status.

The SEP ends two calendar months after the month in which enrollees are notified of their eligibility. The GI rights begin 60 days before the Medicare Advantage Plan coverage ends and end 63 days after the Medicare Advantage Plan coverage ends.

Humana has sent out letters in the mail to all eligible members for the SEP. If those members need assistance or want to compare plans, the Nebraska State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) can address any questions on plan options. The Nebraska SHIP can be reached at their hotline at 1-800-234-7119.
