Open Enrollment

Medicare Open Enrollment is from October 15th through December 7th

Do you review?

Everyone with Medicare is encouraged to review the materials their plan sends them in the fall of each year. If you are currently enrolled in Medicare you should receive the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) from your plan. The ANOC will include information about any changes in coverage, costs, and more that will be effective January. You should also receive the Evidence of Coverage (EOC) which gives you details about what the plan covers, how much you pay and more.

If your plan is changing, make sure it will still meet your needs for next year.  If you are satisfied that your current plan will meet your needs for the next calendar year, and it is still being offered, you do not need to do anything. The plan will role over and continue providing coverage, as defined in the Evidence of Coverage.

Comparing your options is important. Information about next year's Medicare plans is made available on October 1, each year. Open enrollment is also a time for people to change between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage. Prescription drug coverage is provided through Part D and additional information is available here. Medicare Advantage may also offer prescription drug coverage and additional information is available here. Additionally, common differences to consider between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage can be found here.

You can get more information about the differences between these two options from a Nebraska SHIP representative. To review your plan with Nebraska SHIP give us a call after September 19th and we would be happy to schedule your comparison.

To find your local SHIP office click here. Or, if you would like to find Medicare plan information and compare plans yourself, you can visit Medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE.
