Event Details

SHIIP volunteer counselors help seniors and people with disabilities navigate Medicare. SHIIP services are free and unbiased. Volunteer counselors never sell or promote any insurance company.

Volunteers at the Nebraska Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) get tremendous satisfaction knowing that they make a real difference in the lives of people with Medicare. Social workers, nurses, and other professionals are more effective on the job and may earn CEUs. Retired volunteers stay active and engaged. Students get experience to jumpstart careers. Volunteers should have basic computer and analytical skills.

Volunteers receive 20 hours of in-depth Initial Training (4 hours online and 16 classroom hours) and certification. Choose your own times and locations. Work independently or with colleagues. As a SHIIP volunteer, you commit to at least one year of service, attend semi-annual update trainings, and document twelve or more client contacts per year.

Contact SHIIP to learn how you can become a certified volunteer counselor to assist older and disabled people with Medicare.
